Field Of Blood Poem by Colin Ian Jeffery

Field Of Blood

Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples
Treasurer, Zealot, and freedom fighter
Despised down the ages
History's most notorious traitor
Betrayed Jesus for thirty pieces of silver.

Knowing Jesus was Messiah
Judas thought to set Israel free
From Roman occupation and tyranny
Betraying him to temple priests.

God did not send armies of Angels
As Judas wanted to save his Son
Jesus was the sacrificial lamb
Salvation of the children of Adam.

Overwhelmed with guilt and remorse
Judas hanged himself from a tree
In a field purchased for thirty pieces of silver
Christians named field of blood.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
If Judas had not betrayed Jesus to fulfil the Old Testament
prophecy there would have been no crucifixion and resurrection.
Judas had to betray Christ for the Christian Church to flourish.
