Fine D’anno (1980) Poem by Fabrizio Frosini

Fine D’anno (1980)

.

Un altro fine d’Anno.
Volutamente solo. Come sempre.
Del resto, sono uso alla solitudine.
Così come sono uso alla tristezza.

L'inizio di questo mese ha intravisto
La mia anima in Irpinia: la terra
Dove il terremoto ha colpito e
Devastato e ucciso. Lì,
La tristezza –e lo sconforto e il dolore– è ben
Più grande: affogata nello strazio di uomini e
Donne e bambini. Usi anch’essi alla tristezza.
Solo nei morti l’indifferenza.

Essere tristi è essere vivi. Ma la mia tristezza
Non sa trovare scopo in se stessa.

You have given detail information in this poem wonderfully about this earthquake as It happened at the end of November 1980, and destroyed a large area. So sad really.

_________________________ - ABOUT the ''Irpinia Eartquake'': - It happened at the end of November 1980, and destroyed a large area* in the region Campania (* it stroke, in particular, an area South East of Naples called 'Irpinia',) . There were c.3000 dead. The homeless were c.300,000. They were poor people (it was and still is an underdeveloped area) and of all the money spent there, only a fraction went to them.. A great deal (some say half of the total sum spent!) went to the criminal cartels (In Campania there is one of the 3 strong Italian 'mafias': it is called Camorra; the other 2 being the classical/original Mafia -Cosa Nostra-, from Sicilia/Sicily, and Drangheta in Calabria) along with corrupted politicians and civil servants [..AS IT OFTEN HAPPENS IN ITALY..] _________________________

Earthquake shakes the mind and spirit and many fear due to destruction. Death and suffering bring sorrows in lives of many. This is very correlative with your another poem, ' the wind and the river, Very wisely drafted and shared this poem which really provokes thought many times. Wonderful sharing...
