Tenderness Poem by Fabrizio Frosini

Tenderness

Rating: 4.8

Yearning for tenderness.
The one lost —It's so long -so long
Since..

The light delves deep in the watery
Unconsciousness of an unnatural essence,
Just to find nothing.

Longing for what went missing at some point
Somewhere, in the long journey, is a beguiling
Dead end.

Come what may,
Pushed from pillar to post —Worn by
The wrinkles on the forehead
Without destination,

Loneliness
Regrets what's gone lost,
Keeping its scent forever.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

TENDERNESS runs through this poem in several different ways, because the word itself has multiple meanings and applications. This is not a poem that makes the reader tender in the sense of shutting down his/her thinking and evaluating, and just surrendering to the passion of the moment. No, this poem addresses a very painful prospect. namely, what do we do when our emotions have no proper object? In Bergman's PERSONA a bereft husband asks his estranged wife, What shall I do with with my tenderness? He might have added., Before it turns into a negative emotion. Fabrizio's dramatizes the crisis in a story of quiet desperation. I suspect this person will continue to seek an elusive outside reason and/or solution. That is, until the Inner Self takes charge and transfirms itself, rather than this endless, bleak waiting/

''This is not a poem that makes the reader tender [..] ... a story of quiet desperation'', exactly so, Daniel. About the beautiful film by Bergman, ''Persona'', it is a psychological drama dealing with death and insanity. Not my poem, of course. But as the masks worn by actors at theater, we too wear our own mask (or more than one) ... :)

This is a special kind of poem. It is not so much about tenderness as it manifests tenderness] I leave its poetic space not with a definition in mind but an experience in my heart. That to me is one of the highest gifts a poet can give to his reader. The first two stanzas are particularly moving because their imagery is so limpid - that's the right word, because it suggests a watery quality. Continuing with that watery qualitiy, the emotions of the poem are permeable. You don't describe people and their actions, but rather trace the movement of emotions as they flow mysteriously in our interior lives. You have put me the reader INSIDE this poem and I am looking out drenched in the emotions it evokes. I don't want to say anything more because this is an intuitive poem and my response should be Shhh Let the tenderness speak for you.
