Folklore: Irish Myth And Magic Poem by Paula Glynn

Folklore: Irish Myth And Magic

Irish legend told via the ancient Celtic religion
Passed down by amazing but mythological stories
Entertainers telling religious of gods to the crowds
Sharing Celtic stories, Celtic myth and Celtic magic very loud
Drawing in the excited prehistoric Irish crowd
That do spark wonder, intrigue and charisma
Capturing the imagination of people and giving a country roots.

The stories told of god-like Túatha Dé Danann
The Mythological Cycle consisting of tales and poems
Ireland's pagan deities pictured influencing people
The Pagan religion a source of direction and comfort
The Irish people worshipping at their alters
The Irish people praying for love and guidance to these deities
The way modern society has its different religious beliefs.

Irish school children reading important works
In the cycle are the Lebor Gabála Érenn
Known as the famous 'Book of Invasions'
Another legendary history of Ireland
The Cath Maige Tuired: meaning 'Battle of Moytura"
And the Aided Chlainne Lir known 'Children of Lir'
Irish history well documented: the Irish Pagan religion unique.

Ulster Cycle heroic legends relating to the Ulaid
Most important being the epic Táin Bó Cúailnge
Meaning 'Cattle Raid of Cooley'
The Irish people taking it seriously and gathering knowledge
Paganism uniting a small country together with pride
Christianity not yet hitting Irish shores: that came later
The ancient Irish innocent in this regard when stories on paper.

The Fianna Cycle the exploits of the mythical hero Finn
And his warrior band the Fianna: and asking where have they been
Including the lengthy Acallam na Senórach
Translating into 'Tales of the Elders'
A wise idea to respect ones elders and the deities
Knowing life requires guidance from higher powers
Life never stopping: even for the ancient Irish counting the hours.

The Kings' Cycle being legendary
Historical and semi-historical kings of Ireland
(Such as Buile Shuibhne: 'The Madness of King Sweeny')
And tales about the origins of dynasties and peoples
The kings of Ireland putting down strict rules
The Irish working at food and clothing markets
Bringing in money to pay as taxes as the king did choose.

Irish folklore, Irish myth and Irish magic
Are spectacular, amazing and incredible to read
The Irish Pagan religion never forgotten
Even though St Patrick took Christianity to Ireland
But Paganism lives on and people do sing modern folk songs
Influenced by Ireland's past and Pagan beliefs that do last
Food and clothes markets of Ireland that are still vast.
