Food For Thought Poem by Paula Glynn

Food For Thought

Time goes by quickly, year after year
The clock never stopping, just ticking by,
People carrying on with the turning of the earth,
For this earth is our mother,
She created us and takes us on a journey,
Of some strange design;
Perhaps written by the universe,
And even when crimes of humanity hit us,
We join in union to find a solution,

And this is food for thought,
Life should be like,
A sweet slice of apple pie,
Heavenly to the senses,
Yet eaten in moderation,
And you shouldn't eat all the pie at once;
It has to be savoured day-by-day,
And the fruits of your labour should be enjoyed,

Like eating a ripe cherry tomato
And feeling its juicy flavour,
Crush in your mouth,
Like cherries and mangos,
That burst with flavour on the tongue,
And tempts us to enjoy a bowl of ice cream,
That melts with deliciousness in our mouth,

For toffee and coffee should be enjoyed,
Like the forbidden apple off the tree,
And chocolate chip cookies,
Tempt you like Eve even further,
A slice of Victoria sponge just adds wickedness,
And you should make friends with that stranger,
And enjoy your slice of pecan pie with them,

And instead of waiting for it to come around,
Enjoy your life,
And spend every night at a restaurant,
And every lunch break at a cafe,
Because you don't need your plate to go cold,
You need honest-to-god food in your life,

And you should know what you're eating,
And you should have good times,
Throughout your years,
On this heaven we call earth,
For you don't need to go hungry if you try,
No matter what pressures face you,
Just think about this when eating your breakfast,
Because today it could come around,
Or you could have the time of your life,
And enjoy all the foods of the heavenly kingdom.

So give this food for thought,
And you'll never be left standing short,
So pop that cork and pop your cherry,
And enjoy the fruits of your labour,
As you drink your beer or vodka,
And pink champagne as you celebrate your success.
