Follow The Rainbow Poem by Hannah Davies

Not many people know me for real
What I'm thinking or how I feel.
One day I'll find that someone special to hold
Follow the rainbow to my pot of gold.

The real me you have yet to find
To delve deep inside my mind.
But would you really want to know?
If I let my true emotions show.

Could you cope with what I have to say?
Or will you turn and walk away?
Trust needs to work both ways
I'll be honest if you promise to stay.

I want you to understand
And take me by the hand.
If you treat me right
Then the future will be bright.

I want you by my side
I no longer want to hide.
I can't cope with any more abuse
If I trust you with my heart, please put it to good use.

I don't want to be afraid
Only small steps forward can be made.
All I ask if for a little time
For you to be patient and all will be fine.

I have had a troubled past
I need some happiness and want it to last.
I need to learn to let people in
And allow my new life to begin.

There are still problems to over-come
Like cutting the strings that tie me back to my mum.
I won't allow anyone else to hurt me
I am no longer a victim you see.

I won't let people mess me around
Not now my new confidence has been found.
If people don't like it, they know where to go
I never again want to sink so low.
