From A Distance Poem by Jim Yerman

From A Distance

When viewed from afar…in the darkness of space…it certainly appears
the Earth forms a perfect circle..a beautiful floating sphere.

From this perspective we only see her lands…
her trees, her clouds, her seas…
suggesting the Earth allows all of them…
to exist wherever they please…

Implying the Earth gives equally…
of her air, her sun, her breeze…
From this distance the Earth looks like a unified whole…
We see no immigrants…no refugees.

Yes from far away the Earth is but a swirling mass…
of whites and blues and tans…
There are no borders disconnecting us…
for borders are drawn by man.

Perhaps mankind will one day emulate Earth
and no one will live in fear…
Perhaps one day we'll have no unwanted souls…
and all will be welcome here.

For then and only then will the Earth truly be
a beautiful floating star…
When she looks the same from close up…
As she does when we look from afar.
