Generation To Generation Next.1 Poem by Nabakishore Dash

Bucolic my life was
from the very childhood.
Mother was a home maker,
served us all good food.

Mother prepared food at home
using fire wood, mud stove,
earthen pots, coconut
shell spoon and dugwell water.
Wife is cooking food
on gas stove, aluminium pots, steel spoons, pressure cooker, piped water, induction heater.

Daughter uses hot plate,
bottled water and instant pot.
Grand daughter uses smart
phone, orders foods by Swiggy, zomato, uses
a microwave to eat food hot.

Cooking, cleaning and other household works,
my mother used to
with grand mother's aid.
My wife was in job, part of
work being done by washing
machine and domestic maid.

Daughter has kept a cook,
a maid and prepares dishes,
occasionally orders from hotels.
Grand daughter uses robots
for cleaning house, washing machine and depends
mostly on resturants and motels.


Puffed and pressed rice,
whole grains, and boiled
vegetables were my food,
not spiced so much.
Chicken, eggs, mutton,
paneer and flours of various
kinds with more oil and
spices were used by wife
to impart a tasty touch.

Daughter follows the mother's
path, with less inclination
towards fast food.
Grand daughter prefers pizza,
French fry, fried rice, nodules,
burgers, hot dog to be in
good mood.

Mother saw paddy, rice, wheat,
dals and used Dhinki to grind
raw materials to powders to
make us survived.
Wife got all refined food stuffs, but
knew the plants from
which they are derived.

Daughter has never seen the plants
but only knows the farmers
toil in the fields to produce grains.
Grand daughter says that food stuffs are from the shops,
lacks enthusiasm in this concern.
