Geoffrey Chaucer (5) : This is the sequel of: Geoffrey Chaucer (4) , a medieval English poet
His Canterbury Tales is the most generically diverse creative work in the English language, exploring everything from bedroom farce to animal fable and from romances of chivalry to lives of saints.

As I earlier told you: No Geoffrey Chaucer, no English Literature. That simple.

In this sequel, just a tiny bit about his date of birth.
Not exactly known on which date/year he was born,
but history pointed out that he must be born around 1343 and died around 1403.

Geoffrey Chaucer was also a soldier when Edward III invaded France in 1359 during the Hundred Years' War (1337-1453) , Chaucer followed Prince Lionel's retinue and was part of the English army.
During the siege of Reims,
Chaucer was made a prisoner of war at Rethel around the turn of the year, about 40 km northeast of Reims.
Edward III paid a £16 ransom contribution in March 1360 and Chaucer was released.

Chaucer's last account while in the employ of Prince Lionel dates from the Calais peace negotiations in October 1360,
when the Prince paid him to carry letters from Calais to England. In the following years,1360-1366 Chaucer most likely carried out several assignments and journeys.
In 1366 he received a safe-conduct from Charles II of Navarre (1332-1387) to travel through Navarre.
However, the reason for this trip is unknown.
