Glen Puro, My High School Classmate Poem by Bri Edwards

Glen Puro, My High School Classmate

In high school Glenn was my Chemistry partner in 'lab'.
He was diminutive, had a very short haircut, and no flab.
His occasional drooling and abnormal appearance...
may well, for Glenn, have caused him social interference.

I did NOT know Glenn well. Overall I think he was swell.
He was Jewish and wore a yarmulke*; it fit him like a
clam's shell.
He went on to attend Geneva NY's Hobart College....
and I believe he had lots (more than I?) knowledge.

At our H.S.40-year Reunion, which I, but not Glenn, did attend,
someone displayed a photo of Glenn (captioned**) which did offend.
A waitress was told of Glenn, was offended, and the poster came down.
I think the 'poster-put-it-upper' was eyed by some with dubious renown.

In a class notification not long after, we learned of Glenn's death.
Though our class size has diminished, PLENTY of us are still left.
I had only phoned Glenn once. It was a brief talk, but I was pleased.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Glenn also wore very thick eyeglass lenses, was hunched over quite a bit, and stuttered at times. But he spoke up in class. RIP, Glenn. bri :) Also he seemed to 'stickup for himself'. Once another male classmate (I think) knocked Glenn's books from his grasp as Glenn was hurrying between classes in the school hallway. [[ He often carried more than one book secured with a book strap, or used a big briefcase. ]] Glenn turned to the kid, about G's height, and head-butted the kid's face, I think giving the other guy a bloody nose.

A great and vivid remembrance of a high school classmate. It makes a reader remember his/her school years. A well expressed poem.
