Golden Fifties
They had great music in the 1950's.
Bill Haley and the Comets had "Rock Around the Clock"
and Elvis had "Heartbreak Hotel" and "Jailhouse Rock".
Johnny Cash called himself "The Man in Black"
and The Coasters had "Poison Ivy" and "Yakety Yak".
They also had "Charlie Brown" and "Love Potion Number Nine"
and I loved "Walking After Midnight", sung by Patsy Cline.
Johnny Cash also sang "Jackson" and "Folsom Prison Blues",
and who can forget Elvis and his "Blue Suede Shoes"?
Three of the best singers went down with one plane.
Gone but not forgotten; their memories remain.
The Big Bopper, Ritchie Valens, and Buddy Holly…
their pilot was exhausted; takeoff was pure folly.
Memorialized in the song "The Day the Music Died";
the first time that I heard it, I broke down and cried.

Belle, I love your tribute poem to the music of a bygone era. It was so much more fun back then. I saw Elvis in concert just before he died. I sing some of your mentioned songs at karaoke. What a hoot!
The actual name of the song is 'American Pie' by Don McLean, but to me it will always be 'The Day The Music Died'.
I enjoy the music of the fifties but I enjoy the sixties more TFS Bravo! ! !

The song 'The Day the Music Died', always brings back these memories, and has been repeated multiple times since with the death of other exceptional musicians like John Lenon and Freddie Mercury. The deaths of artists that gave us exquisite joy over long periods of time are never forgotten.
