Goodbye Fact Check Poem by Danny Draper

Goodbye Fact Check

3 years break neck
Incorrect bottleneck
Untruth nervous wreck,
Honesty disrespect
Credibility shipwreck
Meticulous time spent
No unturned stone went,
Respect from criticism
Reminiscent of obsolete
Thorough journalism,
Data quoted and long debated
Confused and so oft conflated
Fear and benefit obliterated,
Troweled and exaggerated
Often quoted to extol
Hyperbole an arbitrary troll,
Fiction for a means to end
Overstated now and then
Overreaching but to plead
Fact of the matter,
It does mislead.

Truth handled with due respect
Even if from self interest
Avoids lingering long regret,
Media cycle feeds and reckons
Discrete silence, caution beckons,
Desires for prize throws all to heck
All bets are off,
Goodbye fact check.
