There are some days that will
Be better than most.
Most will occur when things seem
Their worst.
Your car decides it wants to break down
At the end of your shift.
Your man leaves you out the blue
With little to no reason.
An overdraft fee happens the moment
You begin to smile again.
There are some days that will
be better than most.
Sadly most will occur just when you think
It can't get any worse.
Dear woman who feels that no one
Is listening.
This is not the end, but merely the beginning.
You'll go home and kick those tired shoes off
& make your way to the bathroom and soak
In your tub full of aspirations & dreams
You've long since forgotten.
You'll sit and remember how you use
To get your hair parted & greased.
How rough you thought it was back then
And how rare you sit back and think
About those times.
How at peace you were, reminiscent
How grandma's hands seemed
To ease the ails of the world
Before you knew what the world was.
How small everything really was at the time.
How grandma would grease your scalp
And run that comb through your hair
Every night before time for bed.
When was the last time you've stopped
To see how long it's gotten.
The strength of those memories, now
Hanging below your neck.
Those old stories grandma would tell
& how good it made you feel.
There are some days that will be better
Than most.
Dear woman, even at it's worse
Grandma's hands have never left your side.
Not even for a moment.
No matter where she is,
Sit back & think how proud she is
That you were able to make it through
