Gratitude. Poem by Nabakishore Dash

Gratitude.

Rating: 5.0

Pressure of work
kept an officer depressed.
He was thinking of some
means to be unstressed.
He saw, through the open
wind, a man begging
in the lane.
Thoughts of getting relieved
changed in his brain.
Positive emotion took birth
in his thinking.
He considered himself better
than who was begging.
He had enough to travel,
eat and spend.
Atleast he is luckier than others
and expressed his gratitude
to God.

The beggar found a mad man
talking useless on the road.
To chase him gathered
a small crowd.
The beggar was grateful
to God.
He thought himself more
fortunate that he is not mad.

The mad saw a dead body
being carried to the burial ground.
He expressed his gratitude
to God for he is mad,
but not dead.

Only a dead man can not
think and express gratitude.
At least we are alive and
have many reasons to appreciate
others for what they provide.

Just after birth mother's milk,
a bit of earth, free air, sunlight,
water and other essentials.
Are all provided, free of cost,
by God and the Nature for
our survival.
