Halfway Down The Road Poem by Kewayne Wadley

Halfway Down The Road

I love how you kiss me
You kiss me with an open mouth,
Without hesitation.
My tongue a hitchhiker that's been
Out on the road for hours
Then suddenly you appear
When I am halfway down the road
Like some timely prayer.
If I'd known the amount of time
God answers prayers, I'd stayed
Still.
I love how you kiss
I can tell that you've loved & that
You've lost,
But none of that has changed you
Unlike myself.
I've waited in the rain
I've walked clothes all soak &
Wet.
I've walked for miles on end
Not even a passing glance,
Then suddenly you kiss me
& Tell me that everything
Will be okay.
You kiss me like you're the reason
I was out on that road in the first
Place,
You kiss me like you have a full tank
Of gas with nowhere to go.
If I'd known the amount of time God
Answers prayers,
I'd have stayed still.
I've never wished for a engine
To stall out so bad in my life
