Her Name Is Filipinas Poem by Obed dela Cruz

Her Name Is Filipinas

Her Name Is Filipinas

(I LOVE THE PHILIPPINES!)

I first saw her when I walked along sandy beaches,
While in the ecstasy that reflects the glorious stars.
Her beauty brought me to a place beyond that reaches
The bliss of a dear solitude of my precious hours.

She’s like the finest pearl untouched by any diver
But given to me more than any means of a fate.
It is for the verses of a ballad lovelier
And more true, more genuine that has satisfied a wait.

Corals are haven of creatures that breathes in water
But in my heart I by now reserved a resting place
For her and her only, and for her nature’s wonder.
There is to be found a delicate, most tender trace.

Let me hear the captivating songs of the ocean
As we dance on the islands that move along with us.
The revolving world feels like stopping into motion
When she smiles with her bright eyes and I love no more less.

I love her and I want her voice to fall on my ears,
Letting me hear the virgin sound that delights the sea.
We exchanged glances that brought us far above the spheres,
Above the waters to a tranquil place where we are free.

What distant beam on earth can be compared to her sight?
Her radiance is the darling glow of the Pacific
That drives me to keep her growing in abundant light
Like a prince to a princess of the flowers magic.

Whenever foreign crashing waves threaten to injure
Or whenever the offspring of the isles cause her harm,
To remain in love I will be and help her endure
With my prayers and works, with the kiss of love so warm.

Whenever she mourns in the midst of the crystal blue,
Whenever past and present pains cause her deepest grief,
I will be at her side to embrace and see her through,
For it is a joy to see her breathing in relief.

She’s a gift unworthy of trade given from above,
Her name is Filipinas—a name precious as love.
