High On Expectations Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

High On Expectations

A kept protected ignorance,
Has proven to be more infectious...
Than the spreading of a virus.
In the midst scientists,
Everywhere around the World.
Have declared this pandemic,
Is as serious as it can get.
Leaving death.
Not to question the possibility.

Yet...
Many are left to feel more threatened,
Of losing their social normalized status.
And selfish entitlements obtained.
With a protesting against,
Being inconvenienced.
And their entertainment values to lose.

To believe this sickness,
Is either a hoax or a myth.
And they can party on,
From dusk.
Until the next morning Sun dawns.
Living their lives high on expectations.
To prioritize this to be more important,
Than breath to breathe.
Or life to live as if guaranteed,
Untouched they will be.
Proving themselves exceptions.

"Who on Earth,
Can be left to be that stupid? "

Was that a statement?
A question to ask?
A judgement to pass it?
Or a comment made,
That is too obvious to respond? !

"Well...
Everyday it is being made clear,
Who plays the part of the piper.
And the ones hypnotized by the hype! "

Oh.
I see.
So your assessment,
Is more or less a collective observation?

"No!
My assessment is getting more,
Not less sickening than what appears! "
