High School Poem by LeeAnn Azzopardi

High School

Rating: 5.0

She was so weird; alwayswith a crewcut
Making her head smaller than her body
She was a fat Lesbo with a country-wide ass
So we thought
And she always talking to herself
She attempted suicide three weeks into grade nine
We hoped she would die
She dreamt of being a poet in Paris
We thought she was a Narc-and smart ass
Always knew the answers
Her parents never left her alone
She spent her time listening to Punk and Jazz
She was the only one in the class who listened to CFNY
Her favorite band was The Police
And we laughed when she claimed she was holding
On her virignity for Sting
She handed in her homework on time
As we couldn't care less
She was always claiming she would fail
For kicks, we would pick on her until she threw a tantrum
We thought this was funny
We did it out of boredom
We did it for something to do
We never thought it caused her pain
She was a weird loser
But we don't think about it now
And we don't even care

It is sometimes said that " high school is the best time of your life." I believe there are so many who cannot indulge such fantasies. This is a brilliant verse, LeeAnn.

Really a poignant story written with clarity of thought and mind. Insightfully and movingly crafted.
