Hold On Poem by Kewayne Wadley

Hold On

whether he calls her, or she calls him.
the answer is always the same.
'Hold on.'
she answers the phone 'hold on' he picks up
the phone 'hold on'.
she chit chats with her friends. she wanders
around the house. attentive to anyone
and anything around.
while he on the other hand waits.
This pause grows longer and longer.
she laughs, she plays.
the world seems like a pleasant place when everyone
is around her, but when they disappear.
he is the first that she calls.
the distance between them grows.
the world seems more at peace when he has time.
until his phone rings.
the words between them have slowed.
his patience has run out the door
while hers has just begun.
though he is there, he is no longer in sight
