Holiday Cocktails Poem by Della Perry

Holiday Cocktails

She was allowed to buy the alcoholic drinks from the bar
She was eighteen, England is lower to buy booze,
She held the tall glasses with a multitude of colours in front of my jealous eyes each evening in the club,
She, smiling falsely, teasing me,
She sipped through the black straw
She crooned in delight at each new flavour on her tongue
She swirled the plastic sticks with little animals on the top
She was collecting these as mementos,
Wouldn't even give me one!
Little monkeys with long tails, parrots, cats,
She placed the little umbrellas in her hair
Flicking her head around, all grown up,
Giggled and smiled at the men
Who smiled in return or leered,
She showed off, she made me fume.
Back at the caravan
I laughed hysterically
A twelve year old taunting her eighteen year old, hot head sister,
As she spewed up her fancy cocktails
Down the toilet and groaned
'Never again...'

thanks for comments bri. didn't know you could only do one topic, thought it said to add as many as it covers to maximise it getting read, that's what i thought anyway. I will look up the rules again. Feel free to add what you wish Bri. to your showcase. It is a memory from a holiday we had when we were young in a caravan, we aren't travellers lol :)

this one 'BEGS to have a more detailed 'poet's note', BUT i'll be satisfied (i guess) with For my sister. SO, your sister travels with a caravan and wears umbrellas in her hair? cute. btw, i notice FIVE poem topics listed. i thought one topic per poem was the max! ? i wonder if you meant for the third line to go on and on, making the next line so short, or did PH do that? PH has done some tricks to me before. but if it is the way you wrote it, then i accept it. i especially liked: She was collecting these as mementos, Wouldn't even give me one! ....................... mean old(er) sister! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! and WHO could not like: As she spewed up her fancy cocktails Down the toilet and groaned 'Never again...' .............................. THAT shoulc bring memories back to some readers! i was going to compliment the rhyming, but i looked over it again, and i see there is none. i STILL like the poem. of course we'll never know if it is a true story. i sometimes find myself forgetting that all i read in PH poems may NOT be true! this shall go to MyPoemList and into Secion A of my/our A showcase for PH poets [October editioin], a display of PH poets and poems found on my site each month for the past 9 months. thanks for sharing. bri :)
