Honky Tonk Barn Dance Poem by Edmund V. Strolis

Honky Tonk Barn Dance

Rating: 5.0

Honky tonk barn dance
Dusty back road under the moon
A smell in the air of sweet romance
Geese will be swimming skies soon
Following that ancient pull south

Throw your cares in the air
Drive away from the crazy city
Far away from the buzz of being
Let the city lights fade away
Lured away by Jack in the green

Pick that banjo, work that fiddle
Clapping hands, keeping time
Kick up sawdust in the middle
Gonna show the world she's mine

Flowers on your pretty dress swirl
Pony tail whipping in the air
You are the center of my world
A magic flash of colors and curls

Now and then let's slip away
What a night for loving and life
Under the stars on a throne of hay
Gonna' make this girl my wife.

Haha loved this one. What a fun loving story of dance with your best girl. Smile on my face to start my day. Thanks Eddie

I just finished reading Susan's piece about decorating and square dancing...and now this! I love how animate so many beautiful images into music and dance. So well done. Love this one. Thanks.

A poem as beautiful and swift as the dance of the girl of your life. Particularly loved the last stanza for its sheer abandon. I was off PH for a while and have to catch up with all the gems you have scattered here. (10)

Excellent poem in its sweetness and simplicity- - Will insire many to want to escape from the city, for a good ol' country barn dance! :)

This should be a song. Is it a song? Sounds like just the place I'd like to be.
