I Called Upon His Name - Poem by Lamar Denby

In sin, all alone,
I had no life, no friend, no song.
I heard of Jesus' love,
how for me He shed His blood.
I called upon His name,
He washed away my stain.

In Christ, never alone,
He is my life, He is my song.
In midst of storm on this sea,
across the waves He comes to me.
I call upon His name,
the boisterous wind He does tame.

In Heaven, millions sing,
He is the Lamb, He is the King!
In that number I shall be,
for on the cross He died for me.
I called upon His name,
He washed away my stain.

In Hell, all alone,
I have no hope, no friend, no song.
I heard of Jesus' love,
how for me He shed His blood.
I cry for mercy from this flame,
to the tortured memory of His name.
