I Have Drunk Vodka With Stalin Poem by Shaun Cronick

I Have Drunk Vodka With Stalin

Rating: 5.0

I have drunk vodka with Stalin,
To save what I cherish the most.
My life and those all around me,
Not to become a lost gulag ghost.

I remember those dark days well,
His deeds and despot inhumanity.
Of the many millions he sent to hell.
By this man with criminal insanity.

And today I'm old and dying,
Telling youngsters of a past threat.
That they should love each other,
And of monsters, never forget.

I thank you Rose Marie and I salute you also for your uplifting comment. As I said to Soran I did write more but the final message/warning would have been drowned out. So sometimes less is more and works better. A lot better. Thanks again Rose Marie and now I will read your poem entitled War Is A Vicious Cycle. And truth be told, I can't wait. So hang in there Rose Marie and many, many thanks. Take care.

I have written a poem entitled, War Is A Vicious. Cycle. I mentioned the name of Stalin as one of the leaders who showered darkness in the history of humanity.

An excellent write. Very incisive and so true. Shaun, you have captured the evilness of Stalin, a leader with an iron heart who did not care how much he hurt and how many did he kill. Brilliantly penned. I concur with the wonderful comments of the brilliant Poet, Soran.

In the name of humanity we should thanking you for remembering gulag: a system of labor camps maintained in the former Soviet Union from 1930 to 1955 in which many people died, your poem's theme are various and always renewing...amazing poem it deserves 10/10 well done

Thanks again Soran for another most generous comment. Most people don't know Stalin killed more of his country men and women than Hitler. And Hitler killed over 26,000,000. It staggers any decent mind. I did write more but this is more direct and punchier, works better, sometimes less is more. Thanks again Soran take care and keep writing my friend. Keep writing.
