I Heard You Poem by Gary Hembree

I Heard You

Rating: 4.0

I heard you laughing
I heard you singing
Yet when I listened
I found out
That you were only really crying
So I came up to you
To hold you in my arms
To let you know ill shield you
To protect you from what haunts you
Yet I let you down
I thought I was strong
Turns out I was wrong
I lay here now
In a room covered with blue clouds
To see you looking down
Telling me what I had told you
As I closed my eyes
The last thing I heard
Was I love you.

Gary, i like that room covered with blue clouds but nowhere else in the poem do you work with images or figures of speech. Maybe stop writing for a while and immerse yourself insome good contemporary poetry by Billy Collins and Charles Simic? If you have time, check out my new website: jeffersoncarterverse.com Let me know how you like it. Thanks! Yrs, JC.
