Ruth Lennox

I Look Upon Emptiness - Poem by Ruth Lennox

I hold my book of lies
Close to my chest
I cross my fingers
Hope for the best

I step into the fire
And watch the flames spring up
I look into the water
As I sip it from my cup

I keep it all bottled up-
Hold the anger deep inside
I keep it all bottled up-
And then I run and hide

I look into the fire
And throw my secrets in
I race through the desert
But know I'll never win

I look upon the door
There's no lock and there's no key
I look upon its emptiness
And know that it's the mirror image of me.
