I'm One Of Those Backwoods People

Rating: 5.0

I lived amongst the birds and flowers
I felt at one with Mother Earth
Leisurely relaxed passing away the hours
Never worried in this fabulous mirth
Talking with the woodland creatures
Eating the berries and nuts I had
The chipmunks even licked my fingers
I was a little Backwoods lad
The pines were bowing with the breezes
I'd listen to their melody
So sweetly my inner soul it eases
Giving me such serenity
I was so fond to always linger
The days long I wore my stripes and plaid
The squirrels and otter did wander
I pray the groves will all survive
I hear the chirping birds a yonder
They help my inspiration thrive
The magic of soft serendipity
will shake my imagination alive.
I am one of those backwoods people
I smoke my funky corncob pipe
Always pass the thread through the needle
Soon the white lightning will be ripe
It is time to crash the barnyard
with some moonshine in a jar.
We kick off our shoes and skip a twostep
Lean on back and do a do-si-do
Our barker is a golden voice well kept
Swing your pumpkin now to and fro
I prance through a field of daisies
Never worried ‘bout my bills and calls
I dance until the moon goes crazy
The stars went ‘round and began to fall
Paradise is just a breath away
A walk through the wooded pathway
Skipping with a robin's tune
There rises the harvest moon
Once I traveled in a coach
with Nellie while she neighed.
Captured from the autumn's blossoms
To the cabin I did approach
Like a hermit I lied with a possum
who sat in pleasure with a raccoon.
The quietude became addictive
I never wanted to move an inch
My mind became instinctive
I had to give myself a pinch.
I am one of those backwoods people
I'm a little prankster archetype
My advice to the whole wide world
Quit your job and let your life unfurl
Comforts only bring on misery
They'll drag you down without pity
Don't vote and carry on your cross
Drink a toast and curse your boss
Every man has to be free to roam
Remember Mother Nature is our home
If you feel caught up in a cage
Run through the woods and scream in rage
We were born without restrictions
Given critters and free words for diction
I will turn off the noisy city
Yes in all fervor turn the page
back to an earlier age.
Got some time for fairy tale fiction
I'll rap with dwarfs and gnomes
who fantasize without much friction
and talk about their chromosomes.
I whistled with the fairy princess
who was so gentle and pretty.
Never leaving me sadly alone
So I will sing out my choruses
and my fantasy I will surely bless.
I am one of those backwoods people
I smoke my funky corncob pipe
Always pass the thread through the needle
Our freedom we will soon enjoy
The time has arrived and overripe
for all damsels and country boys!
