I'M Your Man - Poem by Leonard Cohen

If you want a lover
I'll do anything you ask me to
And if you want another kind of love
I'll wear a mask for you
If you want a partner
Take my hand
Or if you want to strike me down in anger
Here I stand
I'm your man

a shrewd way of keeping the upper hand by professing compliance. The astonished listener sits eager to read the next shape-shift. Artful rhymes, half-rhymes and variation of line length. Subtle use of cesura. These things can't be taught. (Report) Reply

Not the full version, but still wonderful to read, I did not like his singing voice, BUT I will not deny he was one of the best writers of 20th century verse. I'm proud that he was Canadian. (Report) Reply

Leonard Cohen was right in tune with modern attitudes to lovemaking, 'I'll wear a mask for you'.
'I'll do anything you ask me too'. I think That Cohen was a tremendous poet, songwriter and lead singer.
His voice sounded 'different 'at first, but it was deep and emotionally convincing and now I can't get enough of hearing his songs in concert. It was so true: 'I'm Your Man'.

A lover is ready to do anything for the love- - - The desperation is depicted so nicely in one stanza.

There has to be a flexibility and mutual accommodation between lovers for the longevity of a relationship.
