I Meant Something Once Poem by Valerie Dohren

I Meant Something Once

Rating: 5.0

I meant something once ……
held a place in your heart,
but now there are brighter stars
to illuminate your world -
so I languish in obscurity
like a forgotten dream.

I meant something once ……
brought fire and wonderment Into your life,
a candle which burnt bright and strong -
now there's just a flickering flame,
unseen amidst the glory
that surrounds you.

I meant something once ……
but time takes its toll on everything,
erasing all that went before -
nothing lasts forever,
all things disintegrate in the shadows
of new beginnings.

I meant something once ……
I gave you my heart, my voice,
which now goes unheard in the clatter
and chatter of newness and beauty -
I am as nothing now -
a whisper in the twilight of yesterday.

So carelessly used, then tossed - isn't it a metaphor of life?
