I Must Leave You
IT HAS BEGUN
I MUST LEAVE YOU
AT THE DEPOT
DAWN WILL BREAK
AS WE MAKE OUR WAY
OVER AND BEYOND
THE HORIZON
IF EVER I SHOULD
ABANDON YOU AGAIN
LET IT BE IN MANHATTAN
BY THE 59TH STREET BRIDGE
WITH THE SUN SINKING
BEHIND THE SPIRES
OF THE BUILDINGS
SETTING THEM RED-AGLOW
YOUR FACE SHADOWED
YOUR GOLDEN HAIR ON FIRE
THE DULL GREY OF
THE BRIDGE'S METAL SUPPORTS
SHINING AS IF FROM A
NEW COAT OF PAINT
EVERYTHING RICH WITH PROMISE
HOPES OF A NEW LIFE BEGINNING
SOUNDS OF WATER LAPPING
AGAINST THE PILINGS BELOW
BOATS AND SHIPS SLICING THE WATER
WITH A GENTLE, COOLING SOUND
STILLNESS EVERYWHERE
BUT FROM AN OCCASIONAL
SPUTTERING TUG BOAT
CALLING OUT TO BE MATED
TO AN INCOMING MONSTER SHIP
HOME FROM A LONG JOURNEY
SUCH IS THE PLACE BY THE RIVER
WITH THE TWO SHORES
RIVALING EACH OTHER
ALWAYS CONSTANT AND REAL
I'LL BE HERE IN YOUR DREAMS
NEVER FORGET ME
GOOD MEMORIES SHALL ABOUND
