Why is it that you stay here?
Do you wish that you were free?
I wonder...
if I offered you your freedom
would you walk away from me?
Do you stay because you want to
or do you feel you should?
I wonder...
if we didn't have the kids
would we get along so good?
How can I know you love me
when I can't see how you feel?
I wonder...
if I could read your mind
would you try to cut some deals?
I hope this is forever.
I've bet on it with my life.
I wonder...
if you could choose again
would I still be your wife?
I don't think you need to wonder Mary not with that lovely man you've got there. Lovely poem, I like ' I wonder' as a centre to the verses. Love Ernestine XXX
A lovely expression of self doubt. The question is always about how we feel rather than how others feel about us. In this sense the theme is a perfect one because as creators we use our work as a relationship between us and our audience. Nicel done Mary.
How could anybody not? Perhaps, just perhaps, if such questions do not arise to oneself, tis a sign that the intensity of love is dimming. A lovely and loving, bittersweet, truthful piece.
I doubt there is a married person in the whole wide world who hasn't felt this same way, wondering, wondering - Sad, sort of lonely, wanting to know and afraid to ask Good work, Mary.
