I'd Rather Be In Cold, Rainy England Poem by Paula Glynn

I'd Rather Be In Cold, Rainy England

As cold as rainy England may be
I'd rather be in nostalgic and magical England
When I look out the airplane window
Watching it land onto British soil
There is nothing to depress me
As I am glad not to be a hot country where I boil.

England may always rain but I love the rain
Whereas in Lanzarote it is hot and dry:
And I feel my body temperature make me fry
The hot and dry soil in Lanzarote
That makes me uncomfortable and horrible
The air too hot and too dry for me.

England has its wonderful charms:
It has the Royal Family: a must-have for tourists
It has peaceful countryside and calming countryside
England has legends, heart and soul
Where many stories and fairytales are told
The history of England worth its weight in gold.

There is nothing boring or depressing about England:
And I love the unique English language
That no foreigner can beat: although different dialects
English the language where I find my steady feet
And skills no one can take: no one can beat
But everyone is creative: no one should admit defeat.

Taking trains around the English countryside
Where poetry books are devoured
No matter how long it takes: no matter how many hours
And later glancing out of the train window
The foreigner does find his feet
Knowing England is for everyone to enjoy,

Walking on countryside ground with steady feet
Learning stories of the Bronte sisters
Learning of the Pagens and ancient English people:
People who believed strange things
Yet clever beliefs that were there to explain the unknown
And here amongst that history I am home.
