If They Wanted Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

If They Wanted

Maybe I've been around the block...
Maybe just one and too many times.
Maybe I've been around the block,
And...
Those times have opened my mind.

Maybe I've been around the block.
And...
Too many times.
And it leaves me, I-M-P-A-T-fatigued.
With a I-E-N-...
Repeated.
It's hard for me to sit and quietly when I see...
Decadence.
And lack of discipline defended.
Maybe I've been around the block.
And...
Much too long.
When I perceive respect is given,
Where it belongs...
Everybody gets it and that isn't wrong.

Maybe I've been around the block...
Too long.
And if I move from it my headaches,
Will be gone...
For good.
But the treaures go invisible in my 'hood.
And maybe I'm just seeing it like no one else could.
And they could,
If they wanted.

Maybe I've been around the block.
And...
Too many times.
And it leaves me, I-M-P-A-T-fatigued.
With I-E-N-T...
Repeated.

Maybe I've been around the block...
Too long.
And if I move from it my headaches,
Will be gone...
For good.
But the treaures go invisible in my 'hood.
And maybe I'm just seeing it like no one else could.
And they could,
If they wanted.

Maybe I've been around the block,
For too long.
And I want those treasures seen not defeated.

Maybe I've been around the block,
For too long.
And I want those treasures seen not defeated.

Maybe I've been around the block,
For just too long.
And I want those treasures seen not defeated.
