In Defiance To Defend Selfishness Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

In Defiance To Defend Selfishness

Politicized,
Has been a greatness.
Sought to worship.
And praised.

Politicized,
Has been entitlements to receive.
And greed to feed,
A variety of impressive selfishness.
In a competing society.
Supporting the economy.
Everyone seeks as if a need.

Politicized,
Is prosperity and wealth.
And education to get,
To depict this as success.

Politicized,
Is not the valuing of human lives.
Nor prioritize this,
As a precious 'commodity'.
Or a blessing to treasure.
Only from God this gift is given.

Politicized to prioritize,
Kept worshipped to treasure and praise...
More than one's quality of life.
Is a dollar to crave.
Appetized from birth to the grave.
And done to do,
With a patriotism to defend...
Against truth and honesty deluded.
In defiance of this appearing anywhere!

"Where is the empathy?
The caring and concern for humanity?
Where is the discipline and respect.
Where is any of this,
Reflected to expect? "

-Everyone should know,
When pledging their allegiance...
None of that 'idealism' to wish it,
Is what they are pledging.
You must be one of those nonconformists? -

"Sometimes.
Sometimes not."

-That's even a better fit.
Most of us are hypocrites.
And denying this is what we do best!
While in defiance to defend selfishness,
Protesting this reality to protect.-
