Ours is a country
which celebrates its Independence Day
by hoisting our country's flag with pride
in every district and every school
in every city and every institution
as national anthem gets sung aloud
by every child and every citizen.

Ours is a country
where on our Independence Day
our Prime Minister's makes an impressive speech
so full of promises which he remembers to fulfill;
and as the parade of military band and soldiers
along the Red Fort begins
with symmetry and synchrony so distinct,
their steps and style depict
an invincible portrait of perfection and grace.

Ours is a country
which is so full of religions
that each faith enforces its own sanctity
with secularism and tolerance
which is always so obvious and assuring
as temples and churches,
mosques and gurudwaras always follow freely
their own kind of worship and devotion.

Ours is a country
which speaks so many languages
that every region has its own dialect
and every child learns with ease
to speak words of his own his native language
right from his birth
though as he grows up
he learns to also speak English fluently.

Ours is a country
which has so many dishes and delicacies
that they vary from North India to South India
where Tandoori chicken and rotis are so rampant in Delhi
and dosas and idlis with sambhars and chutneys
are served so sumptuously in Chennai.

Ours is a country
which is so full of brotherhood and friendship
that every visitor or international tourist
develops affinity for our culture
that in their lifespan they keep coming back
several times to our cities
like Goa, Varanasi, Haridwar and Kerala
to enjoy the warm sunshine, learn yoga and meditation.

Ours is a country
which is so full of dedication to human welfare
that farmers of our nation keep growing crops
in their fields all the year round with fervent passion
though drought and heavy rainfall pose as a deterrent.

Our is a country
which is so full of nutrition and information
that each one knows where is the closest eating place
to ward off his immediate hunger
that he rushes to eat parathas and bhajiyas
while the world is busy eating
pizzas, french fries and onion rings.

Ours is a country
which is so full of faithfulness to future
that huge skyscrapers, highways and bridges
get built with very high budgets
yet there are slums and hutments
in our villages and cities
but the poor people who live in it
also enjoy the same joie de vivre as the richest.

Ours is a country
which is so full of wilderness and forests
that you can see tigers and lions roaring in the jungles
or you can see them in the zoos
if you pay a small fee as they keep them in cages
so that children can know and identify animals.

Ours is a country
which braces storms and floods
and faces the brunt of the Pandemic with courage
though our eyes get filled with tears of disbelief
yet our country which is so large is always united
by concern and support for each other
whether we are in distress or in affliction.

Ours is a country
so full of ministers who get elected and re-elected
whether they are educated or under-qualified
yet they run their constituencies
with social commitments and political agendas
and their presence and contentment lasts for years
which no one can jeopardize but only criticize.

Ours is a country
where our Presidents and Prime Ministers
maintain strong friendships
with Presidents of other nations
and they feel empowered with
their consistent support and encouragement
although our own country is a nation
which has its power and prowess in abundance.

Ours is a country
which serves as a model for developing nations
as people believe in self sufficiency
and every Indian rushes to earn his wages with exuberance
whether he has to travel every morning in public transport
whether it is in an over-crowded bus he has to wriggle
or whether in an over-crowded train he has to wiggle.

Ours is a country
which is so full of fraternity and understanding
that when the sun rises on our Independence day,
every Indian wakes up with pride
that he is born as an Indian
and with true patriotism he salutes his nation.
