Midnight strikes, and moonbeams howl
spiraling waves of ivory
Like charcoal lines of an old crone's face
Her wisdoms seldom savory
Like harbingers of autumns winds
Where the seven sisters' roam
Now derelict tides, weepily subside
As the ghosts of youth retreat in foam
Before you go, sweet Emily
I'd like to take you down by the shore
You'll soon be a queen of starlight
But you should hear coral caves roar
Where the azure shimmers ebony
And the seas meet the drowned sky
We'll meet again in eternity
Where time is never heard to cry
As the swan ascends in heavens tears
The sirens dance under sable spell
And coxswain of constellations bows
Mesmerized by the Portents bell
and overhead the north winds call
that Beckons us towards the night
The mother guides, where her daughter hides
In kingdoms of the everlasting light
On the symmetry of our divinity
Forever bound to infinity
The three amazing opening lines contain crystalline images that grip a reader and appreciate the totality of this beautiful, beautiful poem.
