Inside Your Eyes I Will Always See Poem by Jette Blackstone

Inside Your Eyes I Will Always See

Rating: 5.0

I see you inside your eyes
and you've run away.
I see you in a sunset fading

into a pupil and I want to sink
into blackness.
I see us swimming in obsidian

holding on for remains.
Tonight we'll swim through Acheron,
reach a new universe, a new fire.

Our bodies glimmer like constellations.
We spiral into love only to dissolve.
I see you inside my eyes

running
You're ascending—
I grasp for shimmers.

Your DNA coils into universe.
Everything grows from rising.
Our love is this way.

There are no gods.
There are only waves that fold
and rinse sand to shell.

Can you see the music?
I hear us inside these tangles
and forgive your leaving.

You are everywhere.
I will always see inside your eyes
Our love is this way.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem was inspired by a photograph my mother took of a woman running inside of an eye and I think also influenced by the writing of Gjertrud Schnackenberg..she is amazing...

A stunning poem Jette. Valsa's comment 'love that awakens the soul to a surrealistic state ' has aptly described this relationship. And.... 'Everything grows from this leaving' How powerful this sentence is because in a sense we do grow so much from experiencing separation. And this: 'And I forgive you for your darkness, your light… for leaving me and never letting me go'. WOW...10+

The eyes, they say, are a window to the soul. You also define how they are a gateway to a special universe.

I was captivated by the title, and the flood of images that followed kept me enthralled line after line. Truly a remarkable distillation of the complex reality of existence captured in the glint of an eye. A delight to read and contemplate, dear poet. Bravo.

This is such a stunning write about love. Here is a love that awakens the soul to a surrealistic state. Two souls merge together and dissolve as a singular identity, making them born again to be consumed by a new fire of love! Great depth, Pamela!

Thanks Valsa. I think love is the basis for almost everything....or at least it should be. It makes life worth living.
