Invoking Love Poem by Mihaela Pirjol

Invoking Love

Rating: 5.0

Black clouds have gathered
Morphing monsters in the sky,
And only I can see them;
I, with my tormented Eye.

O, Love! From perdition, rescue me!
Upon your horse come wild and free:
Diaphanous white, —in all your splendour!
To your fervent force, myself surrender:
Come near, and dwell into my heart!
Come forth, galloping with strength
Through Cyprus' cypresses and sunrays,
Fluttering your hair in summer air
Of myrtle winds, and saline breeze:

Come! With your vigour and sap,
Pulsing love into my heart;
With your madness and desire,
Hypnotic eyes and heart of fire:
Come! Timid glances, rosy cheeks,
In ecstatic joy upon ethereal wings:
Come! Magnificent, mighty power,
And in flames my heart devour!

Half-whispered words…presentiment…
Through echoes' depths a message sent:
In my trembling heart, —a sudden shudder;
Long-desired love arrives with ardour
And magic elixir—sweet savour of the past:
My dormant spirit, awoken—in love at last!
Melting slowly your name upon my lips—
Ardent for the passion of your kiss:

Send word to Gods and guards at gates,
Majestic Eros for my heart awaits!

You identified this as a dramatic monologue and well it deserves the title dramatic because a drama unfolds over its four stanzas and is resolved in the closing couplet welcoming EROS who fully deserves his epithet MAJESTIC after the heroic build-up to his arrival. In fact, I think the true heroism evoked by your poem lies not in that figure but rather in the energy of belief expressed in the words which summoned him. Yours is the creative force which gives substance to Eros.In the first stanza only your eyes see the threatening monsters, by extension it is your voice of Desire which summons the exciting arrival of the rescuer in the 2nd and 3rd stanzas. At very least your words pave the way for his descent into the world, and guide his journey to self - you who will fulfill his raison d'etre just as he rescues his summoner. This is a grand Romantic poem! !

Come magnificent, mighty power, And in flames my heart devour! Like flames consuming fire wood, I see Love descending down and setting you afire! Powerful diction....Strong expression of passion! Great job Mihaela!
