It's May 7th, Again(Plight Of Only Child Loosing Both Parents Too Soon)

Rating: 5.0

It's been 38 years today, daddy
I really thought that we'd have more time
Mama had left 7 years before - so quickly
Loosing you both - shattered this heart of mine.

Flying back to Seattle 6 months after i left
Was a sorrowful nightmare i would not wish on a single soul
But you seemed to rally in C.C.U - daddy!
But all the while the heart damage was taking it's toll.

When they moved you out of C.C.U. - i had so much hope
They said that you could go home in about 3 days...
I had a place to care for you in Seattle
But at 3: 15 A.M - May 7,1979 you passed away.

I was in total shock that God had taken you -
And i was left with so many things to do
If it hadn't been for God's strength, i wouldn't have made it through
But with God - my courage only grew!

Six weeks later i was able to return home
Driving back to Texas to my husband and our young son
But carrying with me always a huge part of you
Thinking about you and mama when my day is done.

They called me from Valley General in Kent and told me my fathers condition had taken a turn for the worse - so, i went to the hospital and was ushered back to intensive care - he wasn't fully conscious - and his breathing was strange. Back there in the room for only about 5 minutes - and he was gone! ! ! ! All by myself...my knees grew weak - do not remember much after that accept for the fact that later on in the day i had to begin arrangements. I was blessed that i had a place to stay with my parents good friends...they had all been good friends before i was ever born.

Your pain and the description of it just left the written page and painfully consumed all that surrounded the reader at that moment. You just took us in with you at that horribly painful time. I have never read a more vivid and heart rendering poem on the death of a father, full of pain but also a love and memories so deep, they lasts till now as if it were today and will always be with you and also remembered by those who have read this unusually unforgettable poem. So sorry for your early loss.

Sandra, dear, Sandra, thank you so much for reading this - yes, indeed, it was a very pain filled time - one of way too many, in my life; Loosing both parents much too early just does something to ones heart. I was still pretty young and in Seattle, alone, accept for my parents friends who allowed me to stay with them - i was even going to bring him to their home to recuperate - but then he passed so suddenly and i was the person in charge of everything! ! ! ! ! Overwhelming sorrow - and fear engulfed me - but my God was ever near. HE gave me the strength i needed. Just want to say, that you are a very special poet - and i thank you for your being a friend and for understanding. Feel your empathy - and your compassion. One needs empathy and compassion to write stellar poetry and Sandra Feldman you are full to the brim with those two.. There is nothing better in the world than writing true poetry and you have this gift. Would have come on and commented sooner but have been under the weather again. Hugs, thank yous, and blessings, to you dear Sandra.
