Jerry Poem by Donald R Wolff JR

Jerry

There once was a pumpkin named, Jerry
He grew up on my daddy's farm
I watched him grow from a baby
And now he sits in our yard

Jerry looks so very happy
We carved him a kind looking face
His guts all looked like spaghetti
His seeds were saved on a plate

The time came to go, Treat Or Treating
Still Jerry sat in the yard
Grandpa gave Jerry a candle
That looked like a big, fat cigar

Oh Jerry, I think he was happy
His smile lit up the night
Mom said, all my friends came for candy
And offered Jerry a bite

Jerry was gone the next morning
He never said a, 'Goodbye'
I felt so sad for my Jerry
That I started to cry

My parents called me into the kitchen
Then showed me a magic seed in a jar
They told me Jerry stilled loved me
Because, Jerry left me his heart

Now every Halloween season
Jerry comes back to the yard
Although I'm grown and know better
I still love the story, mom keeps in that jar
