Joy Serwylo Poem by Francis Duggan

Joy Serwylo

In June 04 Joy Serwylo turns fifty she is a famous artist from Upwey
A leading light in the Dandenong Ranges and those who know of art of her do say
That her works are works of true inspiration and by her other artists are inspired
Yet she's down to earth and warm and unassuming and by those who know her she's greatly admired.

There is so much to like about this marvellous woman she has the glow of warmth in her smile
So talented and yet so unconceited and she is free of any sort of guile
And she is one of those very nice people who wins herself a new friend every day
I've yet to meet one and she is known by many who have an unkind word of her to say.

If everybody were as kind and generous as Joy Serwylo there would not be a famine in Sudan
And the flower of peace would bloom around the World and we would not have had wars in Iraq and Afghanistan
So why not we celebrate her fiftieth birthday since with others her gift of humanity she share
The World much better for her living in it though sad to say
people like her too rare.

Lets hear it for the one and only Joy Serwylo a woman so well worthy of our praise
And we will gather around and sing her Happy Birthday and to her health our toasting glasses raise
There's more to her than being a well known artist though artists of her calibre are few
So down to earth and generous and helpful and to the higher self she remains true.
