Kazakhstan Fuel Crisis - Don't Massacre Your Own Citizens Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Kazakhstan Fuel Crisis - Don't Massacre Your Own Citizens

Is this humanity where police and protestors clashed so violently
that many of them got injured, many just died for their anger;
and in the face of the world, is there is no justice for those
who question their leaders when they hike the fuel prices
after they have stayed in power
and held the ropes of reign for years?
yet they leave the common man to fend for himself
and fight for his rights and resources
whether it is the fuel (LPG) that has doubled in price
or whether he has to go out of his way to gain or give support
to his own countrymen to balance his needs and wants
as the soaring fuel prices imbalances
one's savings and expenses;
as in that cold climate on a winter day
nothing is more unbearable than the cold feet one gets
when the snow compels people to rush and get in their cars
to go to their workplaces or to take their children to their schools
but when the fuel costs get unaffordable how frustration rises
that only a common man can fathom and understand.

So together they went ahead and protested
hoping that someone would hear their cries
and grant them relief from those high fuel prices
which had soared double the times and were difficult to pay for;
but nothing was more unjust to see when these protestors
got mishandled and were beaten by those who thought
they were in control of the situation thinking that
they are superior in position and strength
while the common man was left to struggle physically
without weapons and fall prey to their arrogance and violence
which they retaliated and though in self defense;
yet they now resort to shooting down the protestors
like birds in a field though these protestors gather
only to show their solidarity to their own brethren
and to tell the world that life is not just about food and clothing
but also about the fuel and gas they need
to keep their mobility and convenience moving
so that the cold winter does not turn them
into statues of ice and freeze them while they walk or sleep
as a home without fire and a car without fuel
is like a sky without a sun and ocean without any water.

So stand in support and unity to those people and their plight
let no violence or vehemence take away the lives of the people
as the families and children of Kazakhstan have to survive
as their country is their own cradle of birth and existence,
their own hub of livelihood and attention
which no one must take away from them or harm them;
so don't overpower them or kill them
as humanity is one big virtue
and respect for families and their future
is commitment of every Government;
so control those moments of terror and horror,
there is no place for those who have no understanding
there is no pride for those who respect no peaceful solutions;
and as the whole world is amiss of safety
due to a havoc created by the corona virus,
to be gentle and calm towards mankind at this time
is prime and supreme duty of every nation.
