Killing Time In The Kingdom Of Heaven Poem by Professor Poetry Hound

Killing Time In The Kingdom Of Heaven

Rating: 3.2

Exactly what does one do in eternity?
Do you just walk around all day
in loose-fitting togas?

Is your soul in some kind of
infinite spiritual rush?
Now that would be pretty cool,
at least at first.
But it would probably get old
after awhile.

So... are there activities?
Like, can we sit at card tables
(probably on some chintzy foldout
chairs) playing Texas Hold ‘em?
Do we get an eternal supply
of poker chips?
Personally, I'd like to opt out of
the Bingo games, you know,
and step outside for a smoke.

I certainly hope they have
TVs in eternity.
But I wonder, is it commercial-free
or does the Lord come on
every once in awhile
and congratulate you
for betting the right way?

Enjoyed this piece PH, as it reflects on common questions with much humor, and realistic approaches to the subject. A strong write for encouraging readers to imagine and reflect on his/her own beliefs.

O my, the concept of eternity just metrogrobalizes the human mind-personally I can't fathom what to do with myself. But if eternity is where I'm bound, then I'm already there, and there is an implicit trust that there is much to do after this life. My own cosmology presents me with infinite worlds which the Great Being creates, and that there is a progression within these interlocking worlds which we are diposed toward. Think of a fetus, swimming in the amniotic ocean world of being, and then the big surprise-a cold, bright strange dry world now disconnected with the umbilical past-perhaps each successive world we are born into is progressively relevant and more interesting, to boot. I'm not talking about reincarnation, that stuffs redundant and low-brow. I'd wager that I have no clue on the great eternity we're all swimming in. Love, Phillip
