Kismet? Poem by David Wood

Kismet?

Rating: 5.0

There is no-one with their arm
Around you when you wake up,
No good morning kiss,
No-one to cuddle up to
On a cold winter's morning.

No-one talking to you as you
Eat breakfast, or saying you've
Got marmalade on your chin.
The bathroom is now silent
Until you go there.

The smell of perfume is no
Longer present, nor her clothes
In the linen bin, her hairbrush
Is no longer in the bathroom
Cabinet, her towel is missing.

There is no shopping together,
No walks in the park to feed
The birds, only the silence, the
Emptiness until you put the
Radio on.

There is no-one to talk about
Dinner, what to cook, and you
Eat alone, wash up alone and
Sit alone in the evening until,
After an eternity, it's bedtime.

There is no-one to lie next to
In bed, to kiss goodnight, to
Hold in your arms, to make
Love to. You lay there in your
Thoughts until you nod off.

You wake up in the morning to
Start another day. We both wanted
Each other to find new love should
Either die first, but you just become
Yesterday's news.

A deeply poignant and touching poem. Death always creates a void that cannot be filled up, only great memories of a departed loved one we can hold onto. Beautifully written.
