Le Loyer. Poem by Michael Walker

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The poem is on p.69 of '101 Poems', ed. by Daisy Goodwin. It is about a single woman who is flatting and her boyfriend wants to move in. She sets out a few conditions if he does move in. What she wants most from her boyfriend is love and attention, which is perfectly reasonable. 'Rent' is true to modern life, especially city life-couples flatting together or moving in.The image in the last line is
memorable. She is offering the man not just a roof over his head but
'a field of stars'. Bliss and happiness together.
