Living Lives Limited Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Living Lives Limited

Who is it that can say,
Those living their lives...
Limited and restricted,
To a censorship they permit.
Are foolish and unconscious?

Some people are curious.
And adventure their lives to live.
Others only live to condone,
What it is they've been taught.
To have been shown to make known.

Realities kept to keep,
With beliefs to stay that way.
Are no different than environments.
People accept to adapt to them.
Within their own comfort zones.
Not too far from them to stray.

Living lives limited,
Has never satisfied...
Those who explore,
Beyond familiar doors.
And considered nonconformists.
Mavericks.
The ones people most ignore.

Until that day,
Those labelled nonconformists.
Misfits.
Seekers of impossible dreams,
Discover something fresh and new.
Something beneficial.
Something to either sell.
Or provide a service,
Everyone can use.
To then be regarded,
As innovators.
Pioneers.

With what they have introduced,
Either stolen by another to patent.
Plagiarized to lie about the origin.
Or claimed to have found,
Deep and hidden in the ground.
And...
Coincidentally,
Near where their ancestors were buried!
Who just happened to have been,
Descendents of Vikings.
