Looking Back Poem by Midnight Clarity

i remember arms around me
holding me, not tight,
lighthearted in the morning
sheltering at night
I remember breathing close by
buzzing in my ear
just the faintest wisp of sound
just loud enough to hear
I remember hearts that beat hard
striving to be one
thudding lost in breathless laughter
as the race was run
i remember lips against mine
whispering my name
then later saying loudly
this was just a game
so i played your games my loves
i walked the paths I'm shown
and sadly now I realise
we always walked alone.
