Dawn Creaks Open Poem by Midnight Clarity

Dawn Creaks Open

Rating: 5.0

Dawn creaks open,
splitting sky
with painful slowness;
sun sears the clouds,
all candyfloss,
to wisps
that cling,
burst bubbles,
on the cheeks of heaven.
Mixed metaphors abound
on moon day mornings;
week end endings,
week beginnings
as we struggle
from the haze of dreams,
of sex, of alcoholic stupor,
to shape the armour
we will wear today
to hide our fragile hearts,
to face the monsters
now demanding
our attention.
Work and Duty
call us through
a tangled maze of tunnels
hurling soot and noise;
bind us up
in metal capsules
rushing through the air
or on the ground
like woodlice
when you lift a leaf
in nature's humming world.
Breathe in, breathe out,
the fragile heart
beats faster,
eyes clear
to see the wonder
of a sunbeam
gleaming on the wingtip
of a bird, edge of a leaf,
the jawline of a son
or daughter, incarnate
beauty everywhere
just shadowed
by the uncompleted blink
as we move
from night to day,
from rest and play
to the tasks
that we decide
to shoulder on our journey.

My God! This is gorgeous, stunning in fact! Love the lines 'Breathe in, breathe out, the fragile heart beats faster, eyes clear to see the wonder of a sunbeam'. A joy to read. HG: -) xx
