Lover's Request Poem by Leslie Alexis

Lover's Request

Let me be the kept promises of your tongue
The yes, which by tomorrow is fulfilled,
The no, completed because it was your word;
Let me be your honesty.

Let me be the tears when laughter can’t tell your joy,
The baited breath of your every longing,
The smile that shows on a stormy day,
The dance whose song remains unheard;
The reason you love flowers;
Let me be the cause of your heart's song.

Let me be the sweat on your brow at midday
The sweetest taste your tongue knows:
Let me be your friend, your lover.
Let me be... for you are my everything.
