Rating: 5.0

കേൾപ്പുനിൻ മൂകമാമാക്രന്ദനങ്ങൾ;

This is a translation of the poem '3 a.m.' by Sister Frances. As the poem is no longer available on PoemHunter for the fellow-poets to read, I post it below. I hope, I have her permission to do so.

3am
By Sister Frances

Let me stay,
I don't mind your minds mess
I want to be that tiny light,
in all that darkness

I hear your silent screams,
and wish that I could be...
the person you reach out to
when you feel the need to bleed

It's 3am in the morning and
I dreamt of you again,
I don't pretend to know you
But I want to share your pain.

Hi Frances, I have rendered the poem in Malayalam as I have understood your poem. For understanding your poem better, the comments on it by fellow poets and your rejoinders to those comments helped me. I do believe that I have tried my best to capture the meaning and message of your poem. Thank you for giving me this opportunity.

Hello Sir, I am a Malayali but married to a non malayali, hence confusion in the name. Yes, I did read the English version, and I was amazed by your hold on both language and choice of words that you used in translation that I found the Malayalam version more beautiful than the English one.Good going!

Hi Ashika, Thank you Ashika very much for reading this translation done by me. The original poem is by Frances. It is a sheer loss to all of us who love poetry that She is no longer active on ph. As the original poem is taken away from ph, I have quoted it below from my archives. Hope you have read that too, and understood how inept my rendering is! !

Hi Susan, Thank you for the good words. Thanks from the bottom of my heart. I do believe, you have read at least a few poems by Frances. I had done this translation (and two others (1) Ee Mohathil Dahikkan) and (2) Kerala) of the poem by Frances, when she was very active on ph. All on a sudden, she quit ph, for reasons best known to her. So, I just shared the originals here on ph for the benefit of my readers. I hope she does not object. I very sincerely regret that I have not got the other brilliant poems by her. Let us hope that she'd come back on ph and post all her lost poems, so we could enjoy their beauty and poesy once again. Susan, it is a very significant loss to all the world of poetry that she has chosen to stay away from ph. I wish she is back. Let us join hands in wishing her all the best! ! ! ! ! !
