Are women really masochistic, I wonder…?
Why do they subject themselves to torture?
After having had one to carry on the race,
Or it might become extinct and be effaced.
Labour pains, risk to life, somehow don’t deter
A woman from doing it again to be a mother.
A friend, baffled asked a pertinent question,
Why the whole burden of nurture and creation
Was put on one sex…I draw my own conclusion,
As there can be no other answer and solution.
God knew men couldn’t endure excruciating pain
And rise above self, so thus he ordained…
Women, with some exceptions, want to be mothers…
Go for more than one, so siblings can support each other.
As He gave all of us the gift of selective memory,
The moment she holds the baby she forgets the drudgery.
I guess of all the modern scientific inventions,
The pill gave woman control over creation…
If and when she wants to have a child,
Now she can choose and independently decide…

You are right Mamtaji. Though men are phisiologically stronger than women theycannot endure pain as much as women can. My friend used to say 'imagine how much work ur wife turns out before u return from a jolly trip to ur office' That is why a woman is compared with Bhoo maatha, the Mother Earth.
Woman was created by God as a companion for man and He had endowed her with a few special qualities, which men in general, failed to realise and infact abused! In this materialistic world woman and dowry have become synonymus! Motherhood is a special gift of the Lord! But rearing a child becomes a joint res- posibility.Modern birth control measures are indeed a great boon! Mumtaz Mahal in her 18 years of married life, gave birth to Shah Jahan's 14 children! & died after having given birth to her fourteenth child! Does the Taj compensate her sacrifice adequately? ? Mamta ji for your poem 10/10! -Raj Nandy
Interesting write, a mix of emotions on this subject, typical woman - haha... Aren't we just amazing; -)
as they say, child birth is a re-birth. let me tell you, in the name of meternity, women all along have been conditioned to enjoy pain so much so pain and woman become inseperable. i knw the male fraternity would raise a hue and cry! we love our children, of course!

I would like to translate this poem
It's a cold way to look at things Mamta, yes child birth is pain, every one knows that, but a lady friend of mine looked at her beautiful daughter and with so much love in her eyes, said to me I made that, that Mamta is what it's all about...Andrew
